Barbecue Competitions

If you have been smoking meat for any length of time then you may be interested in participating in a barbecue competition. These events are held all over the United States and whether it is a KCBS event or one of the other various BBQ organizations you simply need to enter, familiarize yourself with the rules and the rest is a lot of fun.

I am not going to try and list the different events in this page, I am simply going to give you the links to the different organizations that sanction the barbecue competitions and you can click on the links at your leisure and find out what events are being held close to you in your state or in a reasonable driving distance.

KCBS – Kansas City Barbecue Society

The biggest organization that I am familiar with is the KCBS or the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Their website can be found at www.kcbs.us and when you click on their calendar it automatically brings up the current month. The months are listed just above the events and you can easily click on another month to see what events are scheduled for the rest of the year.

NEBS – New England Barbecue Society

Another big organization is NEBS or the New England Barbecue Society. Their website is located at www.nebs.org and their current year calendar can be seen here.

IBCA – International Barbecue Cookers Association

The IBCA is a group that seems to be mostly just events in the Texas area.. a good thing since you won’t find many Texas events on the KCBS or other organization sites that I am aware of. Their website is located at www.ibcabbq.org and their current 2006 events calendar of events can be viewed here.

FBA – Florida Barbecue Association

The FBA holds events in and around the Florida area and can be found online at www.flbbq.org with an events page located here.

If you have knowledge of another barbecue competition or organization that sanctions such events please shoot me an email with the details and I will do my best to get it listed.
